Built in 1955, the lighthouse stands on a cliff overlooking the endless blue of the Atlantic and is a great spot for photography and nature lovers. It is located in the municipality of Tuineje, not far from the towns of Gran Tarajal and Las Playitas, and boasts the title of the closest point of the Canary Islands to the African continent. The lighthouse itself, built in 1953 from red stone blocks, is an example of Fuerteventura's traditional architecture. It was built by Carlos Alcón Sanz, the author of other lighthouses, including the Casa del Mar in Tarfaya, Morocco. La Entallada was in its time the most powerful lighthouse in the Canary Islands and today it is part of the SIVE system that monitors migration.
